ATU alumnus Anthony Tidwell has developed the Cutwell 4 Kids program, which provides children in Hot Springs with the same access to art education that he received as a child.

“[Art] is what saved me,” said Tidwell, “My mom put me in a private art lesson outside of my normal school in Atlanta during the Atlanta child killings spree. After seeing my classmates missing, I used to have bad dreams…but my art teacher used to make me draw what I felt. I would leave all my frustration and lack of understanding on my paper and go home relaxed.”

Seeing that same transformation in young people is what motivates Tidwell to push forward with Cutwell 4 Kids.

Tidwell renovated a space previously occupied by his grandfather’s barber shop and it now serves as the art studio for Cutwell 4 Kids.

In addition to teaching art, Tidwell is active in producing art as well. Several of his works are featured on the Arkansas Arts Council website.
